“You left me to die.”

A new Harley Quinn’s Revenge trailer has been released for the upcoming Batman: Arkham City DLC, it gives us more reasons to be excited for it.

More of Harley Quinn’s grunts are shown who are dressed in red and black, similar to Harley’s new outfit. A bit of the storyline is also revealed, Batman went into Arkham City to save a police officer who had been kidnapped by Harey Quinn, the rescue mission went wrong and Batman ended up getting shot and we presume taken prisoner by Harley. Robin then enters to save Batman and we are shown some combat scene involving Batman and Robin’s first playable role in the storyline.

Typically, our Take 5′s consist of the first five minutes of controllable gameplay with cut-scenes shown but not included in those five minutes. However, Max Payne is unique in the combination of controllable gameplay and cut-scenes. It was difficult to give a solid five minutes, so this particular Take 5 gets to break the rules. Enjoy and be sure to keep an eye out for our review coming soon!

Development Hell is a new web series coming soon to a computer screen near you, dealing with the life of a game developer. As someone who is hopefully going into the industry myself, I took a special interest in this series. I contacted Phillip Aleman, writer of Development Hell, to ask him some questions.

What gave you the idea behind Development Hell?

I’ve been a “gamer,” all my life, but didn’t initially set out to create a show about video game development. The idea for Development Hell dates back to March 2010. I was trying to come up with an idea for a webseries (or something) that a small group of people could make. I didn’t have much luck. After narrowing it down to “something in an office” (I figured faking an office would be easy–I’ve come to realize I was quite wrong in that assumption), I toyed around with the idea of a tech company of some kind. But the real spark for the show lit when news broke out about a certain developer falling out of favor with its publisher. Part of me was outraged. I was upset that so many people didn’t care about the developers’ plight, but then I realized most people weren’t even aware of the struggle. I found the whole ordeal fascinating. I started thinking and realized I know a lot more about the video game industry than I thought. I also realized how crazy it is. Why hadn’t anybody tried to capture it before? Most film/video adaptations of the video game industry usually revolve around A: The people who play them (gamers) or B: The characters within the games. But there was nothing about the development process.

I wrote the first draft of a pilot in 2010. However, after writing it (and a series character guide), I set it aside. I second-guessed myself and felt the idea was stupid. Maybe there was a reason why there weren’t any shows about developers for a reason. Who would want to watch a show about people who work at computers all day?

Then in 2011 I was visiting my friend Chris Purdy (our web designer, cinematographer and video editor). He had recently picked up The Social Network on Blu-Ray and suggested we watch it (I had missed its theatrical run). I enjoyed it greatly, but it was important to me as it was a Oscar-nominated film about a bunch of people who work in front of computers all day–just like Development Hell. I thought maybe my initial idea wasn’t so crazy after all, and reworked Development Hell into a web show (I initially wrote it as a standard ~40 minute drama for no good reason). Then I approached Chris Purdy and Will Kioultzopoulos with my scripts and we went from there.

I’d also like to stress that Development Hell is not based on any one studio. It is a fictional studio set in a very real (and familiar) world.

I saw you classed it as a drama series but are we going to be expecting comedy elements or are you gonna keep it serious?

The tone of the show has been something we’ve discussed quite a bit. At the moment, I like to think of it as a “funny drama.” But ultimately, we just want to make a quality show that people can enjoy. I don’t care if people start calling it a Costume/Period Drama, as long as they like it people can classify it whatever they want as far as I care.

Can you tell me more about the developments team? As in size, names, previous projects?

Our “core crew” is five people. The core is composed of myself, the aforementioned Chris Purdy, Will Kioultzopoulous, Drew Agler, Lisa Lambert. I worked with Chris and Will previously, but that was years ago. They have made a number of small films together since then under their banner “MediaChef.” This is the first time the five of us have worked together on the same project.

Our cast is a little over a dozen. Most are from the West Lafayette area, but we have others who are traveling a little further to be in it. Most are relatively unknown, but all of them are great and we are more than happy with our cast. We’ve also been fortunate enough to have the talented Hank Fincken join our cast.

Would you see Development Hell becoming a part of Machinima, or do you prefer that you stay independent?

Currently, we have no plans to partner with any specific entities, but may in the future. We would have no problems forming a partnership if we were offered one that we felt was right.

And finally, how long do you think it will be before we see an episode 2?

We are in the process of making the next episodes. Currently, we aim to create nine more episodes, bringing Season 1 to ten episodes. The production will be over the summer. Unfortunately we do not have a concrete release date, but we are aiming to have them out as soon as possible. Until then, people can check out our official website for articles about the video game industry at large and in-universe pieces about the world of Development Hell.

I’d like to thank Phillip for answering the questions I’d have to ask. Now that you’ve read that, here’s the concept video and pilot episode. For those of you with little time, the pilot begins at four minutes, but I must urge you to watch the concept. Either way, be sure to watch:

Chances are, if you grew up in the 90′s, Toonami played a pivotal role in your television experience. You probably remember T.O.M., as well as iconic shows like Dragon Ball Z and Gundam Wing being your key reason to plop down in front of the TV. But now, you’re all grown up, and you’ve come to miss the anime-styled cartoons of your past.

Maybe I’m reading into this a little much, but I have every reason to: Toonami is coming back. And it only took a cruel April Fool’s joke to garner enough interest to bring it back. Adult Swim ran the first couple of seconds of their yearly April Fool’s tradition, The Room, only to be interrupted by T.O.M.. Adult Swim then took to Twitter, telling viewers to use the hashtag #BringBackToonami to broadcast their love for the block of programming.

Now, Adult Swim has announced Toonami’s return on their official site. It doesn’t state much — there are no shows confirmed yet — but we know that it’s coming back on May 26th, which is a Saturday, so it is possible that Toonami will either supplement or take over the current block of anime on Saturdays. Either way, I’m excited.

In the midst of THQ’s total rethinking of their business strategy, it’s not surprising that they’re pushing some of their titles to less crowded release windows. The next one to be delayed is Obsidian’s upcoming South Park: The Game, which is now set to launch sometime in early 2013.

2013 is starting to look a little more crowded, with titles like Bioshock Infinite joining the 2013 lineup. The good news, though? 2013 is going to be awesome.

The Force is unusually strong with Mickey Mouse this upcoming weekend in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Kicking off on May 18th and running every weekend up to June 10th Walt Disney World will be celebrating Star Wars in an epic fashion. Grab your lightsaber and your Mickey ears and get ready to experience the magic of your favorite sci-fi series Disney style.

New to this year’s events is the “Carbon Freeze Me” Experience. “Freeze” yourself into an eight inch figurine to hang at your Palace or bedroom. It will set you back about $100 but for the true Star Wars enthusiast money is no problem when it comes to carbon freezing.

For the younglings in your space party, send them off to the Jedi Training Academy. There they will learn the ways of the Force and how to wield a lightsaber. They will need those skills in case the evil Darth Vader happens to make an appearance.

For the autograph hunters out there, the following celebrities are scheduled to appear over the four weekend event:

Via StarWars.com

Weekend II (May 25 – 27)

Andy Secombe (Watto – Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace)

With the release of Windows 8 on the horizon, many consumers are hesitant to buy a PC with Windows 7 as the OS. In an attempt to reduce the likelihood of dropped sales prior to the Windows 8 release, Microsoft is offering a special upgrade deal for purchased Windows 7 computers. While only two versions of Windows 8 will be available to consumers (Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro), Windows 8 Pro will only be offered to Windows 7 OS purchasers who are upgrading.

But wait, there’s more! Microsoft will also provide “upgrades to Windows 8 users in the form of upgrade “packs” that provide Windows 8 Pro and Windows Media Center capabilities.” These upgrade packs replace the previous Windows Anywhere Upgrade system and will be “available through a new interface called Add Features to Windows 8.” A price for these upgrade packs has not been announced yet.

What do you all think about this approach? Will any of you even be upgrading to Windows 8?
